E-commerce accounting is harder than it looks. Every Stripe payout is a netted bundle of sales, refunds, chargebacks and fees. Every Amazon settlement involves three currencies, six fee categories and reserve movements. Every cross-border sale triggers a VAT decision that depends on where the customer is, whether they're VAT-registered, and which EU scheme you've registered for.
We act for Irish-based e-commerce sellers from solo Etsy makers through to seven-figure multi-channel brands. If your accountant still wants a CSV emailed quarterly, you'll feel the difference within a month of switching.
E-commerce-specific issues we handle
OSS and IOSS VAT
The EU One-Stop Shop (OSS) lets you account for VAT on B2C sales to all 27 EU member states via a single Irish return. The Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) covers low-value imports under €150. Both schemes have specific record-keeping requirements and exclusions (notably for B2B sales, which still need normal VAT treatment). We register clients for OSS/IOSS and handle quarterly returns.
Multi-channel sales aggregation
Shopify, Amazon (EU and US), eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Faire — each platform has its own settlement structure. We use A2X or LinkMyBooks (depending on platform mix) to translate platform payouts into clean accounting journals, with proper separation of revenue, returns, fees and reserves.
Stripe and PayPal reconciliation
The single biggest cause of inaccurate e-commerce accounts is treating Stripe payouts as revenue. They aren't — they're net of fees, refunds and reserve movements. We reconcile gross-to-net properly so your profit, VAT and tax figures are accurate.
Inventory and COGS
Inventory accounting (FIFO, weighted average, periodic vs perpetual) is where amateur e-commerce books fall apart. We work with your inventory system (Cin7, DEAR, Linnworks, Shopify Inventory) to land COGS in the right period — critical for accurate gross margin, VAT and tax.
Multi-currency
USD, GBP and EUR sit alongside each other in most e-commerce books. We use Xero's multi-currency module with daily revaluation and clear realised/unrealised gain tracking — so the FX you actually made is the FX you actually report.
